Swim goggles are one of the most essential swim apparel items that you will purchase. There are many types of goggles, each with its own advantages.

But if you are a new swimmer or new swim parent, where do you start?

After several years of buying goggles for my competitive swimmer and after polling several swimmers of many different age groups and disciplines, I have created a list of the 10 Best Swimming Goggles for 2023 | Tested by Swimmers.

Check out competitive swimmer, Alex Aivalotis, sporting his favorite competition swimming goggles, the Aquasphere Xceed Mirrored Goggle in Red and Black. Perfect for swimmers looking for high-performance gear. The same goggle was used by Olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps during the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

As parents of an active, competitive swimmer, my wife (SwimMom) and I (SwimDad) have learned a lot over the years.

My experience as a physician of athletes, a former USA Swimming Club Board Member, and an avid lover of swim combined with the experience of our swim community (current coaches, former coaches, current athletes, and swim product experts) give us a unique opportunity to evaluate new products or ideas and pass the information on to you.

Using this information, we have created a list of the best swimming goggles for your swimmer’s needs.

Young swimmers have different needs than your seasoned, competitive teen or adult. Goggles should have easily adjustable straps that are durable and a large, comfortable seal that makes them comfortable.

Often new swimmers prefer a clear lens when swimming indoors to be able to see better while learning their strokes and gaining awareness around the pool. If they are swimming outside, tinted, UV lenses are a must. As they get older and more comfortable in the water, the trend is to wear goggles with a mirrored finish.

I would start with the AquaSphere Kayenne Clear Lens Goggle. These are typically tri-Athlon style goggles but have a wide strap and a large comfortable seal that is more forgiving. You can buy these in clear or tinted and are typically at a moderate price. The downfall is that the nose piece is not adjustable in width.

Check out AquaSphere's new and improved, super slim microframe on the AquaSphere Kayenne Clear Lens goggle. The oversized, durable lenses are great for improved visibility while the one-piece frame design is great for comfort and durability. The scratch-resistant, anti-fog lenses offer 100% UV protection and come in clear and smoke.

AquaSphere Kayenne Clear Lens Goggle

  • 100% UV protection
  • Hypoallergenic materials
  • Anti-fog lenses
  • Scratch-resistant lens
  • Simple to adjust strap and buckles
  • Oversized, ultra-durable lenses for great visibility
  • One-piece frame and nose bridge keep fit secure and comfortable
  • Available in multiple colors and lens coatings including smoke and clear

If your swimmer wants a more traditional-looking goggle, the Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 Mirrored Goggle is your best choice. This goggle also comes in clear or mirrored but has a smaller caliber strap and seats closer to the eye socket. The nose piece is adjustable and typically 3 sizes are included in the package.

This is the Speedo Vanquisher 2.0. The improved design boasts a 25% increased peripheral view. The ultra, low-profile design makes it one of the most popular goggles for competitive swimmers. The double head strap and interchangeable nose piece ensures a comfortable, water-tight fit. The Speedo Vanquisher also comes in a Jr. model for younger swimmers and a prescription model for those needing corrective lenses.

Speedo Vanquisher 2.0 Mirrored Goggle

  • Ultra-mirrored lens coating (also available in clear, smoke, or prescription)
  • Ultra low-profile design
  • Wide field of vision
  • Two-tone, silicone, double head strap
  • Interchangeable nose pieces for better fit
  • Soft silicone eye seals
  • UV protection and Anti-fog Lenses
  • Latex-free
  • Variety of colors
  • Junior version for younger swimmers

When your swimmer becomes more competitive and you need every advantage to take tenths of a second, goggle selection becomes more crucial.

A good pair has a low-profile fit that works with the swimmer’s face to reduce drag. Most swimmers at this level prefer mirrored lenses and need to have maximum visibility.

Our pick, AquaSphere Xceed Performance Goggles, also happens to be the same brand used by 23-time Olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps. Phelps used this same design and for several years rebranded them under his MP brand.

These AquaSphere XCEED Performance Swim Goggles use cutting-edge Exo-Core Technology for maximum protection and supreme comfort whether training or competing. The Xceed features a semi-rigid frame with a low profile, light weight design for enhanced durability. Ultra-soft gaskets and adjustable nose piece provide maximum comfort. The curve, polycarbonate lenses are anti-fog and scratch resistant, while providing 180-degree visibility.

AquaSphere Xceed Performance Goggles

  • Semi-rigid frame
  • Low-profile
  • Lightweight design
  • Enhanced durability
  • Ultra-soft gasket
  • Curved, durable, polycarbonate lens

  • Adjustable nose piece

Another great option for the serious competitive swimmer is the Speedo Fastskin LZR Pure Focus Mirrored Goggle.

The new Speedo Fastskin LZR Pure Focus Goggle is packed full of enhancements. This goggle boasts 2X anti-fog technology, a hydroscopic lens, and anti-drag design as just some of what it has to offer. LZR Pure Focus has an innovative, low-profile design using fit-point markers and sidearm stabilizers. This goggle is packed full of features for the competitive swimmer.

Once again, my pick for open water would be the Aquasphere Xceed with Titanium Mirrored Lenses. These goggles have great visibility, are low drag, and hug the face extremely well while remaining comfortable.

These AquaSphere XCEED Performance Swim Goggles use cutting-edge Exo-Core Technology for maximum protection and supreme comfort whether training or competing. Some swimmers love the fit and tradition of Swedish swim goggles. Our choice is the Sporti Anti-fog Swedish Mirrored Goggle. The strap is a bungee style and can be replaced easily.

Swedish goggles fit inside the eye socket and create great suction. While there are still some who prefer this style, I really don’t see the benefit over the technology that exists today.

Sporti Anti-fog Swedish Mirrored Goggle

A modern take on the traditional Swedish goggles is the TYR Socket Rocket 2.0. This is a versatile goggle with many modern features.
