Reasons Your Swimmer May Have Been Disqualified In Freestyle

Freestyle aka Front Crawl is by far the most popular stroke in competitive swimming. It’s fun and it’s probably the easiest stroke to start off with for a new swimmer.

What’s more, it is the hardest stroke to get disqualified.

In a Freestyle Event (ie. 50 FR, 100 FR, 500 FR, and so on…) the swimmer is able to actually swim any stroke as long as they follow a few simple rules.

Watch out for these simple rules and you can ensure a qualified swim and a happy swimmer.

View this simple, fun infographic that shows 4 reasons why a swimmer may be disqualified when swimming the freestyle stroke during competition.

The only exception to the “any stroke” rule is during Individual Medleys or Relays. A Front Crawl swim technique must be used during these types of events, or your swimmer will be disqualified.
