Alex’s Review | How They Look
“I really like what these look like. The straps are similar to my Aquasphere Xceed, so it’s close to what I’m used to and they really look good on my face. The mirrored lenses are my favorite!”
Enhanced Visibility for A Competitive Edge
The angular brilliance of The Magic 5 goggles isn’t just for show; it translates into a superior field of vision that can make all the difference in a race.
The expanded peripheral view afforded by this innovative design is a game-changer for competitive swimmers, offering a crystal-clear advantage by eliminating obstructions in their line of sight. Swimmers can confidently navigate their course, anticipate turns, and surge ahead with the assurance that their goggles offer not just clarity but a strategic edge in the pursuit of victory.
Alex’s Review | Visibility
“These goggles are really clear. You can really see on the sides like they claim. The tint has a nice color and it makes it easy to see underwater and out of the water.”

Unparalleled Comfort
The ingenious design of The Magic 5 goggles prioritizes wearer comfort by eliminating the need for forceful adjustments into the eye sockets. With a custom-fit gasket that gently fits within the eye socket rim, these goggles redefine comfort in the swimming experience.
Bid farewell to post-practice headaches, eye strain, and the notorious “raccoon eyes” that often accompany other tight-fitting goggles. The thoughtful engineering ensures that swimmers can enjoy extended periods in the water without compromising on comfort, making these goggles a standout choice for those who prioritize a pain-free and enjoyable swimming experience.
Alex’s Review | Comfort
“The goggles are comfortable. The gasket sits inside the eye socket and feels light. There isn’t a lot of suction but I guess that’s how it’s supposed to feel. I’m used to my goggles suctioning to my eyes. They feel good.”

Ultra Slim Profile
The Ultra Slim Profile of these goggles is crafted with a specific focus on minimizing drag, and in practice, they indeed live up to this claim. The thoughtful design incorporates additional angles that serve a dual purpose—enhancing peripheral vision while simultaneously mitigating the flatness commonly associated with many conventional goggles designs. This dynamic approach not only contributes to improved hydrodynamics but also addresses limitations found in other goggles, offering a sleek and streamlined solution for swimmers seeking optimal performance in the water.
Exceptional Customer Service
Despite encountering a flaw in the manufacturing of our initial pair, a matter we’ll delve into in the Cons section, the standout feature was the remarkable customer service. The team demonstrated not only politeness but also commendable responsiveness, swiftly addressing our concerns and ultimately resolving the issue without any unnecessary hassle. This positive interaction with customer service not only reflects a commitment to customer satisfaction but also underscores the brand’s dedication to ensuring a positive experience for its users.
The Magic 5 | The Cons
Considerations for Competition Use
Though TheMagic5 goggles offer an impressive array of features, it’s crucial to address a few considerations, especially if you’re eyeing them for competitive swimming. One notable aspect is their custom-fit design, which, while comfortable, may pose a challenge for some swimmers who prefer a more traditional fit. The unconventional design might take some getting used to, particularly for those accustomed to standard goggle styles.
Additionally, as with any innovative product, TheMagic5 goggles are not immune to occasional manufacturing flaws. Our initial pair had a defect, a point that underscores the importance of thorough quality checks. While the customer service team handled the issue promptly and effectively, it’s essential to note that such occurrences can impact the initial experience. These considerations may not overshadow the overall advantages of TheMagic5 goggles, potential users need to weigh these aspects against the extensive list of benefits before making a final decision.
Addressing Manufacturing Defects
In the realm of product development, occasional manufacturing defects are an unfortunate reality, and TheMagic5 goggles are not exempt. Our initial experience with a defective gasket, leading to water leakage during use, was admittedly less than ideal. After spending about 20 minutes attempting adjustments, we identified a clear error in the forming of the gasket. Whether attributed to inaccurate scan data or a glitch in the manufacturing process, the defect compromised the goggles’ performance.
However, it’s crucial to emphasize that encountering manufacturing glitches doesn’t necessarily qualify as a con, particularly considering the company’s responsive customer service. Upon contacting them, we underwent a new scan, and they promptly replaced the goggles at no additional cost. The new pair arrived within approximately two weeks, completely resolving the issue.
Given my background as a physician accustomed to dealing with custom-fit medical products, I understand that occasional manufacturing hiccups are practically unavoidable. TheMagic5’s swift and hassle-free resolution showcases their commitment to customer satisfaction, turning what could be perceived as a negative into a positive testament to their dedication.
Alex’s Review | The Problem
“My first pair had a defect. It initially was uncomfortable at the top of my eye socket. I’m very picky about my goggles and the gasket dug in. Once the defect was found, we sent them back and the new ones felt fine. They were comfortable and fit so much better.”

Navigating Leaks and Diving
The issue of leaking persisted even with the replacement goggles, but a crucial revelation emerged—it wasn’t a flaw in the product, but rather a matter of adjusting one’s approach. The typical habit of pressing goggles against the face proved counterproductive with The Magic 5. Instead, the design necessitates a gentle resting within the eye socket. Due to the automatic seal afforded by the custom fit, there’s no need to exert pressure for a secure fit.
Interestingly, the goggles exhibited more pronounced leaking after a dive. This phenomenon is likely attributed to the design’s unique mechanics. When diving, the water’s force against the goggle lens inadvertently pushed the goggles backward, creating a tighter seal. Given that these goggles are crafted to sit loosely in the eye socket, the unintentional alteration in the seal during a dive resulted in leaks. Understanding this nuance and adjusting one’s wearing technique accordingly can significantly enhance the overall experience with The Magic 5 goggles.
Alex’s Review | Leaks
“They leaked a little after a dive. Sometimes they lift a little and sometimes they start to press in and the seal is broken, letting some water in. When I would readjust them, they would keep the water out fine. After using them for a while, I just can’t trust them in competition. If my goggles leak right away, in a race, I’m in trouble.”

The Magic 5 | Review Summary
Overall, our experience with The Magic 5 as a company has been overall positive. Based on my non-swimmer experience and my son’s competitive swimmer experience, we agree that these goggles are a really well-built product and the company is great to work with…the app is easy to use and the buying experience is seamless.
We conclude that they would make great practice goggles. The comfortable fit stands out as the feature that would have the most benefit. Daily practices with tight-fitting goggles can be uncomfortable and even get irritating after a while.
We would not recommend them, however, for competition or for days when practice starts. Our experience, actually Alex’s experience, is that they leak after dives. This was disheartening because they really are great-looking goggles.
We would like to see the company work with their engineers to solve the leaking problem. The concept is great, but we feel some more work needs to be done to make these a viable tool for competitive swimmers.
Some reviews complain about the price. We find that the $60-$70 price tag is in line with the majority of high-end goggles and is fair. Some sites refer to a $100 price, so they must have brought the price down since those reviews were posted.
The Magic 5 | FAQ
Do The Magic 5 goggles fog up?
Yes. But the truth is that all goggles fog. No one has solved the fog problem with swim goggles. Many claim to have anti-fog coating and companies have developed special antifog sprays, but most swimmers will report that none of these actually work to make a goggle fog-free. These products may decrease fogging only.
How long does The Magic 5 take to ship?
In our experience, shipping was fast. Our goggles were manufactured, shipped, and received within two weeks from the date of our face scan, give or take a day.
How does The Magic 5 work?
Using Optimal Fitting Technology, THEMAGIC5 goggles are made to measure, for a better swimming experience. First, you scan the profile of your face using The Magic 5 App. Your scan is sent to a robotic cutter that crafts the gasket based on your scan. The fit is an exact match to the contours of your face. Once you receive the goggles, 5 nose-pieces are included to ensure the nose bridge creates a comfortable match.
How do I scan with The Magic 5?
Explore a variety of goggles available for purchase online. After buying, customers receive an email instructing them to use a face-scanning app. Download the app, click “link scan to order,” and within 1-2 days, the scan will be verified and sent off for production.
Why is it called The Magic 5?
According to the company’s website, the name seems to imply that small differences, that 5%, give the athlete an edge. The implication is that these custom-fit goggles give swimmers that competitive edge.
